A Supportive Environment for Behavioural and Emotional Difficulties
Dr Bishop supports all major psychological non-clinical behaviours in a confidential environment for children, young people and adults. These include life events such as stresses, traumas, and the impact of divorce on parents and children. Other areas covered include impact of sexual abuse, self-esteem issues, child behaviour and adult coping strategies. Dr Bishop undertakes specialist anti-bullying work with children and adults, linking with their school to develop a team approach. She also works in sessions of support with families, as well as couples and families, to help create a team and a caring environment when suitable. Contracts are undertaken for schools and organisations to support children, young people and staff.
She has worked as a psychologist with children for leading children’s charities and also as a teacher and university lecturer for many years. She was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts for her work with young people.
Dr Bishop now works in private practice with children in a supportive environment for behavioural and emotional difficulties in Staffordshire and London’s Harley Street. This work includes supporting parents, children, young people and adults. Many adults requiring support for sexual abuse, childhood related issues of attachment, relationship issues, parenting problems and stress related life events were searching for Child Psychologist to help them through trauma from their childhood and thus the service now provides full support for adults. While working predominantly in cognitive and behavioural therapies, the approach is integrative which includes discursive analysis and considers all traditional psychological approaches to support life changes, behaviour changes, options, accepting old circumstances and adapting to new ones.
This is not a diagnostic or clinical service: it works beyond counselling and is based on psychological support using all major psychological approaches. It allows time for adults to consider the role of childhood, behaviour, relationships, insecurities, self-concept and patterns of behaviour, coping strategies and managing stress. It is also a time for children and young people to be listened to, and supported by a professional. Relevant referrals will be made where Dr Bishop feels this necessary. The main focus is on having time to be listened to, working through issues, and considering and understanding behaviour change.
*Appointments that are cancelled with less than 48 hours notice or no show will be charged at a full session rate.
Dr Bishop also runs a research company, Look2Children, and is a media psychologist for interview on general and topical issues, contributes to national publications, is a Chartered Psychologist, a Trustee, and a trainer in safeguarding/child protection/anti-bullying work/troubled teens and works in assessment and support for children on the autism spectrum.
